Welcome to Luter Family YMCA

The Luter Family YMCA provides a safe, family-oriented environment, and a gathering place for thousands of kids, families, seniors, and individuals. In its previous life, part of the Luter Family YMCA was Smithfield High School. It was leased to the YMCA by the County of Isle of Wight in 1995. It was renovated in 2004 and again in 2012 with the expansion of the wellness center, child watch, and group exercise rooms.

  • What inspired you to become part of the YMCA community? Growing up in this community, the Y played a meaningful role in my life. It's even where I first learned to swim. As I got older, I was drawn to the Y’s positive, health-centered environment and sought out employment early on. What began as a role in summer camp opened my eyes to the breadth of programs and the deep sense of belonging the Y creates. I quickly fell in love with the family atmosphere and the way the Y supports the community through every season of life, inspiring me to continue serving.
  • What are some of your most significant accomplishments at the YMCA? I’ve had the privilege of growing within the Y, serving as a Director, Associate Executive, Wellness and Community Health Executive, and now Center Executive. Each role has shaped how I serve and lead. This progression has allowed me to deepen my impact across child care and wellness, supporting individuals and families at every stage of life. Serving more than a decade full-time and two decades part-time has given me meaningful opportunities to advance our mission while helping our community thrive.
  • What are your hobbies/interests outside of work? I prioritize staying active and spending time with my family and friends. Strong muscles and bones are essential to maintaining strength, longevity, and vitality in my own life. After several years coordinating volunteers for the Smithfield Sprint Triathlon, I discovered a new challenge in the sport itself. That experience motivated me to embark on my own journey as a triathlete, adding a new dimension to how I challenge myself, stay healthy, and continue to grow both personally and physically.

Give to the Y

When you give to the Y, you support programs and services that help kids succeed, prevent drowning, prepare teens for life and help people grow healthier in spirit, mind, and body. The Y is needed now more than ever to meet the evolving needs of our community.
